I needed better access to my emails while being on the road, so I apprehended a BlackBerry Bold 9700 - the ultimate business phone. Or so I thought, at least, but the jury is still out.
I got my new device yesterday, but today I was suddenly faced with a "JVM error 517". This is a reference to the java virtual machine, and the error code means " JVM Error 517: The BlackBerry Device Software encountered unexpected data in a memory location which is used for normal operations". I have no idea why I got this error, within 24 hours of starting to use the phone, and hopefully it was a result of enabling encryption, and some FS corruption - and not an indication of some deeper hardware issue.
Anyways, this is apparently an unrecoverable state, so I went ahead and flashed the device following the steps of an online guide . As I haven't connected the device to my laptop yet, and made a backup , and due to the state of the device I was unable to recover the data on the device. But since I just got it yesterday, that simply means having to re-enter a bunch of phone numbers , so no major loss.
At least the phone seems to be back up and running
During the time I used it, it was a great phone. But now the newer models are here, and they're even better 🙂
